Alport Reserves 3 Meole Brace 0

Alport finished their season on a high note with a fairly comfortable victory over lowly Meole.Alport struggled to find any form during the early stages, in a very scrappy game and were guilty of missing a number of good chances. In the 15th minute,Matt Baldwin threaded a pass through to Jordy Kennedy who rounded the Meole keeper but placed his shot into the side netting.Kennedy then showed good ball control inside the penalty area but
just delayed his shot which allowed the keeper time to make a close range
save.Meole then had their best chance of the game when Turner blazed over the bar from 10 yards. Alport then changed their formation and started to take control of the game, with a number of set plays causing the Meole defence problems. It was from a set play,in the 30th minute, that Alport took the lead.George Haller's corner kick was partially headed clear by a Meole defender but Haller latched onto the clearace and whipped in a cross that striker Rob Brassington glanced into the top corner.
Alport went two goals up in the 60th minute when Kennedy thumped the ball off the underside of the bar and into the net from close range, after being set through by midfielder Matt Morris.Alport had a great opportunity to
increase their lead when Brassington skipped past the Meole keeper, but unfortunately dragged his shot wide of the far post.Alport killed off any hopes of a Meole come back in the 80th minute when Jordan Maclean's sweetly struck,30 yard free kick, caught the visiting keeper too far off his goal line and landed in the back of the net.

Alport Reserves 1 Newport Town 3

Title favorites Newport deservedly took all three points but Alport pushed them all the way with a very determined and committed performance.Town created the better chances during the first half with their centre midfield pair just getting the better of their Alport rivals Andy Batchelor and Matt Morris. The Alport back four were in solid form except for one lapse in concentration,in the 25th minute, when a partially cleared corner was returned into the six yard area and Ratcliffe scored from close range while the Alport defence hesitated. Alport continued to raid down the flanks and Mike Sutton had a great opportunity when he broke through the Town defence but unfortunately a heavy touch allowed the keeper to smoother the chance.
The second half contined in the same manner, but with Batchelor and Morris getting to grips with Town's midfield they started to get more of a foothold on the game.Town threatened in the 55th minute when their defender headed a corner just over the bar and Alport responded when a similiar set play, from George Haller, flashed low across the six yard box but unfortunately know one could get a decent connection on the ball and the danger was cleared.Ironically with Alport stepping up their game they were caught out and punished with a clinical finish from Ratcliffe, when he burst through and slotted the ball into the far corner of the Alport net.Alport continued to push foward looking for an opening in the Town defence and they almost scored when Jordy Kennedy's neat lay off set up Sutton whose scuffed strike was saved by the keeper.Town effectively killed the game off in the 80th minute when Handley tucked away a penalty, after a trip inside the Alport penalty area.Again Alport refused to lie down and they scored the goal of the game when Haller was put through down Alport's right flank and his pin point centre found Sutton who headed home from 8 yards out.

Morda Utd Reserves 2 Alport Reserves 2

Alport were made to work hard for their point by a committed home side.Utd caused a scare in the Alport defence, when there striker burst through on goal, but standin keeper Steve Burchell produced a tremendous double save to keep his team level.Alport threatened several times with their best effort being a George Haller free kick that was destined for the top corner but was brilliantly kept out by Thomas with a one handed save. In the 30th minute Mike Sutton put Alport into the lead, lifting a Jordan Maclean through ball over the advancing Thomas and into an empty net.Utd equalized in the 42nd minute with a penalty converted by Clarke after defender Andy Edge was harshly adjudged to have committed a foul.
Inside the first minute of the second half Utd went ahead after Evans capitialised on a defensive mistake and poked the ball underneath Burchell.Alport responded and rallied well after this set back. They got their reward when Sutton raced onto another Maclean through pass and squared the ball into the path of partner Haller who's fierce strike gave Thomas no chance,in the Utd goal.Alport continued to threaten throughout the later stages of the game but without finding the elusive winning goal.A draw was probably a fair reflection of the game overall.
