Saturday 7th May 2011 Brown Clee 2 Alport Reserves 3 This was a fine away win for an Alport team that twice came from behind to secure maximum points.Alport struggled to find any form during a sloppy first half performance,and they fell behind in the 25th minute,when Davies out paced Derryl Thornton and slotted the ball home with a low strike.Alport responded with Matt Baldwin & George Haller both striking the bar from the edge of the penalty area with blistering strikes,that had Clee keeper Steve Jordan well beaten.Jordan then kept the Clee lead intact,just before half time, with a fine save from the lively Baldwin.After the half time team talk Alport upped their game and played with far more urgency. Haller latched onto several long clearances but lifted the ball over the bar,with only the keeper to beat,on each occasion.The break through for Alport came in the 65th minute when Jordan Maclean rose to head home a Haller corner kick.Clee's Alex Devey then caught Alport napping to drill the ball home from 10 yards to put the home team ahead.In the 70th minute Maclean bulletted another header into the Clee net and then,with 5 minutes left on the clock,keeper Jordan palmed away a fierce Haller strike but Baldwin reacted first to drill the lose ball into the back of the net.Assistant manager Steve Burchell said 'It was a valuable win for us that we deserved,especially after our second half performance.' Saturday 30th April 2011 Alport Reserves 0 Church Stretton 4 An under strength Alport were blow away by a strong Stretton side.Although Alport did improve during the second period they were never likely to turn this game around. Saturday 23rd April 2011 Alport Res 2 Brown Clee 3 A fast flowing end to end Easter Saturday game saw Clee pip Alport with a clinical finish by Devey in the 75th minute,after he capitilised on a mistake by captain Derryl Thornton.With injuries and first team call ups taking their toll, Alport were forced to send out a very attack minded team and it almost paid off.Clee started the better and Alport's Steve Burchell made a fine save from Vaughans' close range header,inside the opening five minutes.Alport soon settled after a shakey start and took the lead with a curling 20 yard free kick, from Dan Tinsley, in the 25th minute.Jordy Kennedy had a great chance to increase Alports' lead but saw his close range downward header, narrowly miss the target after good work from George Haller.Devey then had a chance for Clee but saw his toe poke strike clip the outside of the post,after a mix up in the Alport defence.Clee then equalised on the stroke of half time when a free kick was tipped onto the bar,by Burchell only for the ball to bounce off the keeper and into the net.A pivital moment during the game came in the 55th minute when the referee over ruled his linesman and allowed play to continue, which allowed Haller to pick out Danny Bernie in the penalty area who kept his composure to drill the ball past Jordan in the clee goal.After consulting his linesman and despite Alport protests,the goal was chalked off and then Clee caught Alport out 2 minutes later when Vaughan beat Burchell with a low drive.Alport regrouped and forced their way back into the game,in the 70th minute, with a neat strike from Haller,however they were undone by Devey's late winner.Alport manager Steve Maclean said 'It was a classic game for the neutral and we really should have taken a point from the game'. Alport travel to Atlas F.C on Wednesday night and face Church Stretton on Saturday at Yockings Park KO 3.00 Saturday 9th April 2011 Alport Reserves 1 Clee Hill 0 Alport faced botton of the league Clee Hill, on Saturday and had a fairly comfortable win.Clee threaten first when a Hampton header was tipped onto the bar by a back peddling,Steve Burchell,in the Alport goal.Alport then went onto dominate long periods of the game and they looked particularly dangerous from set pieces,with Dave Burgess and Jordan Maclean both heading narrowly wide of the target.In the 35th minute,Matt Baldwin and Simon Bradley combined to set Jordy Kennedy through on goal,but the striker saw his crisp strike fly over the crossbar.The all important goal came five minutes late though, when centre half Sam Jackson headed home a Kennedy corner after getting in front of a Clee defender.With the Alport midfield of Andy Batchelor and Dan Tinsley, in control for much of the second period they really should have increased their lead,with Bradley ,Kennedy and Baldwin all guilty of missing the target when well placed.However,Alport played out the final stages without any problems to take maximum points from a potentially tricky game. Alport are back in action v Wroxeter Rovers on Wednesday 20 April at Yockings Park KO 6.45 Saturday 2nd April 2011 Alport Reserves 0 Ellesmere Rangers Reserves 2 Rangers edged Alport out in an evenly balanced cup tie,with two early strikes proving to be Alports' undoing.Rangers took the lead in the 15th minute when a long through pass caught out the home defence and Evans drilled the ball home,past Steve Burchell.Another long pass,in the 20th minute,saw Pound latch onto a mis-placed header by Derryl Thornton, and he eventually squared the ball for strike partner Evans to notch his second goal of the game,with a close range finish.Alport refused to allow these body blows to affect them and they almost clawed their way back into the game,when Luke Woollam and Matt Baldwin combined, but the later saw his low drive curl just wide of the far post.There was no further scoring during the second period,although both sides had opportunities.Alport pressed foward and they had plenty of the ball but the Rangers defence stood firm and the visitors looked dangerous on the counter attack.Burchell saving brilliantly at the feet of Evans in the last minute to deny him his hat-trick.Alport manager,Steve Maclean said 'It was a decent performance by us, against premier league opponents,but ultimately Rangers clinical finishing proved to be the difference between the sides'. Saturday 19th March 2011 Bishops Castle Town 2 Alport Reserves 0 Alport crashed out of the league cup semi-final with a dissappointing performance in a very tense and bad tempered game.Alport needed a mistake free performance and a bit of luck to progress to the final but unfortunately got neither.Mike Sutton broke free in the 10 minute,for Alport,but saw his 20 yard lofted shot strike the far post and land kindly for Kinsey in the Town goal.Alports' Luke Woollam was then up ended just outside the Town penalty area and limped out of the action,with the resultant free kick being scrambled clear by the home defence.The turning point of the tie came in the 25th minute, when a mistake by defender Ashley Wilson gifted Town striker Martin time and space to drill a low drive past Steve Burchell in the Alport goal.Alport were rocked by this body blow and Burchell had to be on top form to keep them in the tie.The second half was played out in a similar manner with a succession of niggly fouls stopping the play from flowing.Another pivital moment in the tie came in the 60th minute, when George Haller broke clear and with Kinsey to beat saw his fierce low strike go inches wide of the far post.With Alport forced to chase the game Town looked dangerous on the break and they scored a killer second goal when Green drilled home from close range.Alport battled on and they threw everything at Town during the final 15 minutes but ever really tested Kinsey enough to pull the tie around. Saturday 12th March 2011 Alport Reserves 1 Atlas FC 1 Suprisingly this County League clash finished 1-1.Both teams were guilty of missing good chances,through a combination of last ditch defending and goalkeeping heroics from Alports'Steve Burchell and Atlas keeper Steve Parry.In a tight,hard fought first half, Luke Woollam almost broke the deadlock after latching onto a Dan Tinsley through ball,but Parry smoothered his attempted clip shot to the far post.Alport central defenders Sam Jackson and Derryl Thornton were kept busy and both made timely interceptions as the Atlas fowards broke through on goal.The second period saw the game become much more open and Atlas opened the scoring in the 55th minute,when Maiden intercepted a Burchell clearance and calmly stroked the ball into the far corner of the net.Alport hit back 10 minutes later with a superb equaliser,Tinsley peeling away from his marker to head a Jackson delivery past a stranded Parry, into the Atlas net.In the 75th minute,Alport conceded a penalty when,Dan Owen clipped the heels of Worthington.Arklie stepped foward to take the spot kick but saw his fierce strike surperbly saved by Burchell via the cross bar.Woollam and Baldwin had excellent chances saved by Parry and Alports' Jackson had to be alert in the closing stages to clear a Alderson shot off the goal line.This was another highly entertaining game where a share of the points was a fair result. Alport travel to Bishops Castle Town on Saturday in the League Cup semi-final ko 2.30 Saturday 5th March 2011 Meole Brace 0 Alport Reserves 3 Alport came away from Shrewsbury with the points,having earned a comfortable away win.Kicking up the slope during the first half,Alport settled quickly and threaten the Meole goal on several occassions.Lee Blackhurst seeing a powerful header from a George Haller corner expertly tipped over the bar by Meole's keeper Neal Page.Following another Alport corner kick Sam Jackson inadvertedly blocked team mate, Matt Baldwins' strike on the goal line.However in the 25th minute Alports' Simon Bradley raced onto a Dan Owen through pass and neatly side footed the ball home underneath the advancing Neal Page.Page then kept the hosts in the game making a double save to keep out a Baldwin penalty,in the 35th minute.Early in the second half Alport doubled their lead when Blackhurst tapped home a Baldwin cross, from close range.With Alport pushing foward, Dan Tinsley had a great chance,narrowly heading a Jordan Maclean cross over the bar.Jordy Kennedy sealed the points for Alport,in the 75th minute,with a composed 10 yard strike.In the closing stages Kennedy went close again with a hooked shot just going round the upright and Luke Woollam saw his attempted lob just go over the bar. Saturday 19th February 2011 Bishops Castle Town 2 Alport Reserves 2 A 'never say die performance' from Alport saw them return from in-form team Castle with a share of the points,after trailing by two goals at one stage in the game.The hosts were fortunate to survive early Alport pressure with George Haller crossing for strike partner Matt Baldwin,who saw his side foot shot, hit the post from 6 yards out.Lee Blackhurst also went close twice,with 6 yard box headers which narrowly went wide of the target.However in the 25th minute Alport were undone by Cintra,who beat Alport defender, Jordan Maclean to the ball,with a neat glancing header that left keeper Steve Burchell stranded. Alport host Brown Clee at Yockings Park on Saturday KO 2.00 12th February 2010 Alport Res 2 Oakengates Athletic 2 Alport fought out an entertaining draw against their old rivals.Gates' took a 20th minute lead when a long throw in was flicked on into the Alport penalty area and Brant's looping header beat keeper Neil Whitfield at the far post.Alport responed 10 minutes later when George haller surged through the centre of the Gates' defence and calmly slotted the ball into the net.Jordan Maclean had a great chance when he headed a Haller free kick narrowly over the bar.The second half continued to see both teams create chances and in the 55th minute Alport took the lead with a superbly worked goal.Ashley Wilson converting a Haller pass with a deft flick around the Gates' keeper. Alport host Ellesmere Rangers Reserves at Yockings Park, on Saturday, in the Quarter finals of the Ethelston Cup. KO 1.30 15th January 2011 Church Stretton Town 3 Alport Reserves 2 Stretton mastered the terrible weather conditions better than Alport and ultimately progressed into the Junior Cup semi-finals.In a very open quarter final Stretton threaten first forcing several corner kicks,that the Alport defence dealt with very well.In the 15th minute Stretton had a loud penalty appeal waved away by the offical but they did'nt have to wait long before they were awarded one.Andy Edge was ajudged to have tripped a Stretton foward inside the 18 yard box and Richards converted from the spot.Alport responded immediately and Matt Baldwin crossed for luke Woollam who's close range header struck the bar.Stretton then doubled their advantage, when in the 30th minute Jarrod raced onto a through pass and tucked the ball underneath Neil Whitfield in the Alport goal.Alport then forced several chances with Woollam seeing a tremendous shot tipped round the post by the home keeper.In the 40th minute, Alport dragged themselves back into the tie when Woollam struck a wicked 22 yard free kick into the bootom corner of the net.The second period saw both teams go close on several occasions but in the 75th minute Stretton scored what proved to be the killer goal when Jarrod capitilised on a moments hesistancy between Edge and Whitfield and nipped between them to score from close range.Alport again forced Stretton onto the back foot and when Baldwin converted a Woollam cut back with a fine side foot finish, to set the tie up for a grandstand finish. However Alport could'nt find the breakthrough and Stretton kept possesion of the ball well during the final ten minutes to seal Alport's exit. Alport face Ellesmere Rangers Res in the Ethelston Cup on Saturday at Yockings Park ko 1.30 Saturday 20th November 2010 Oakengates Athletic 4 Alport Reserves 0 After two fine victories over Gates' in the League and the County Cup,Alport were dumped out of the R.J.Memorial Trophy after a truly woeful performance.The hosts struck inside the opening 2 minutes when a quickly taken free kick put striker Dawe in on goal and he made no mistake from 10 yardsHumpfreys then out jumped his marker,from a corner kick and his downward header spun into the net deflecting in, off Alports' Dave Burgess. Alport did briefly rally round with Jordy Kennedy blasting two shots from tight angles over the bar and then Dan Owen missed Alport's best chance of the game when his low diving header,from a Luke Woollam cross, went the wrong side of the far post.Gate's went on to dominate long periods of the second half and they effectively killed the game off when Jordan Maclean's hurried clearance fell to Dawe,who drilled the ball into the bottom corner, from the edge of the penalty area.With Alport committing men foward they were caught on the break,in the 75th minute, with centre halfs Derryl Thornton and Andy Edge appealling for offside, Dawe raced through to round keeper Neil Whitfield and complete his hat-trick. Alport again travel to Oakengates this Saturday in the R.Jones Memorial Cup KO 1.30 Saturday 6th November 2010 Oakengates Athletic 2 Alport Reserves 3 Alport returned from Telford with all three points after a hard fought encounter.Gates' started well and put the Alport defence under considerable pressure during the opening period.Wall put Gates' in front as early as the 5th minute,when he chipped the ball over keeper Steve Burchell from the edge of the penalty area.Burchell then made a fine save,with his feet,to keep Gates at bay.Alport gradually started to play their way back into the game after a very sluggish start and in the 30th minute Dan Owen and Jordy Kennedy combined to put George Haller through on goal and he slotted the ball underneath the Gates keeper and into the empty net.During the second period,Alport started to impose themselves on the home side.In the 60th minute, Haller again broke clear of the home defence to coolly clip the ball home,to give his team a slender lead.Things got even better for Alport when Jordy Kennedy converted a penalty after Matt Baldwin had been tripped after he had jinked his way into the penalty area.The hosts then pulled a goal back,when Lineton shot through a crowded penalty area to give an unsighted Burchell no chance,but Alport hung on to clinch the points. Alport travel to play the same opposition again this Saturday in the County Cup KO 1.30 Saturday 30th October 2010 Clee Hill 4 Alport Reserves 5 Alport came out on top of this nine goal thriller,in another end to end game,with both defences struggling to contain the opposition fowards.George Haller scored twice in the 10th and 15th minutes in identical fashion,when he beat the offside trap and calmly slotted the ball past the Clee keeper.Clee then capatilised on a Steve Burchell clearance that fell kindly for Clifford who passed the ball into an empty net.Alport keeper Burchell,then redeemed himself with two smart saves from Martin to keep his team's lead intact.Luke Woollam extended Alport's lead in the 35th minute when he showed good close control to round the home keeper and poke the ball home.Alport were awarded a penalty,for handball early in the second period and Jordy Kennedy converted from the spot.Clee then shuffled their side around and started to take control of the midfield.A close range strike from Tommey and a Martin penalty brought them right back into the game.Ashley Wilson then scored,in the 80th minute,when he smashed the ball into the back of the net from 8 yards out after linking up with Haller and Woollam.Martin then scored his 2nd goal,after the Alport defence were caught napping,to ensure Alport suffered a nervy final few minutes. Alport travel to Oakengates Athletic on Saturday ko 2.00 Saturday 23rd October 2010 Atlas FC 3 Alport Reserves 5 Alport made a blistering start in this Divisional Cup tie,which eventually saw them through to the semi-finals.In the 5th minute Simon Bradley slipped the ball through to Luke Woollam and his 12 yard strike gave the Atlas keeper no chance.Ashley Wilson then headed home a corner kick,with a bullet header from close range,on the 10 minute mark.As the game flowed end to end,Alport increased their lead with Woollam heading home a superb Matt Baldwin cross from the left flank,beyond a stranded keeper.Alport kept pushing foward and were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute for a trip inside the penalty area that Jordy Kennedy smashed into the back of the net.Atlas were thrown a life line on the stroke of half time when Alport were caught napping and allowed Alderson to place the ball past keeper,Darren Hassell..With a strong wind behind them Atlas pushed foward early in the second half only for Woollam to latch onto a Dan Owen through pass, and tuck the ball into the far corner of the goal,to complete his hat-trick.The hosts refused to lie down and went onto dominate the remaining 25 minutes of the tie.Alderson scored in the 70th minute with a strike from 18 yards and then moments later Maiden headed home a corner at the far post.Atlas were then awarded a penalty in the 80th minute,when Dan Owen was penalised for a tackle but experienced keeper Hassell,pulled off a brilliant block save to keep the score at 5-3.With central defenders Derryl thornton and Jordan Maclean in solid form Alport played out the final minutes of the tie to ensure their place in the semis. Alport travel to Clee Hill, in the league,on Saturday ko 2.30 Saturday 16th october 2010 Rock Rovers 2 Alport Reserves 3 Alport progressed to the next round of the County Cup with a hard fought victory against the Alliance league leaders.Playing down the slope,it was Rovers who threatened first and Alport keeper Neil Whitfield had to be quick off his line to clear the danger.Rovers were not to be denied though and in the 25th minute they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area,that Higgs drilled home.Alport were on level terms in the 40th minute when Simon Bradley raced away from his marker and calmly lobbed the ball over a stranded Rovers keeper, from 18 yards.On the stroke of half time Rovers were awarded a controversial free kick on the edge of Alport's penalty area and after Whitfield had initially saved Higgs' strike,Carolan was on hand to bundle the ball into the net.Alport were in determind mood,after the previous weeks dissapointment and went onto dominate the second period.In the 70th minute Luke Woollam headed home a Matt Baldwin cross,from close range and then 5 minutes later Alport sealed the win when,Lee Blackhurst headed a Bradley throw in towards the back post and Woollam was on hand to nod the ball home. Alport travel to Allscott on Saturday to face Atlas FC in the League Cup KO 3.00 Saturday 25th September 2010 Alport Reserves 0 Bishop's Castle Town 1 Alport tasted defeat for the first time in the league this season when they came up against a strong well organised Town side.In a hard fought encounter and with a strong wide in their favour Town started the brighter and put the Alport defence under considerable pressure with a series of corners and free kicks.Andy Edge came to Alports' rescue when he twice headed the ball clear from his own goal line.Alport threatened several times on the counter attack but the final ball into the box was dealt with by the Town back four.The crucial moment in the game came on the 25th minute mark when the referee penalised Dave Burgess's perfectly good tackle on the edge of his penalty area,and awarded Town a spot kick.Davis converted from the spot to put his team in front. Alport reshuffled their line up at half time and the introduction of Matt Baldwin gave them the upper hand in the second period.But despite dominating long periods of the half they only had a few half chances and their overall play lacked their usual cutting edge. Saturday 17th September 2010 Alport Reserves 4 Hanwood Utd Reserves 2 Hanwood raced into a two goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes when McQueen headed home,from a corner and then Hodges drilled the ball into the roof of the net after racing clear of his marker.It could have been worse for a Alport side suffering a hangover from last weeks Ethelston Cup tie,when Keeper Neil Whitfield pulled off two fine saves to keep his team in the game.To their credit Alport did'nt panic and started to play themselves back into the game. Two quick fire 6 yard box strikes in the 30th and 35th minutes, by Jordy Kennedy, had Utd on the ropes and then Mike Sutton drilled home from 12 yards to give his side a slender half time lead.Alport went on to dominate the second period causing the Utd defence all sorts of problems and it was George Haller's 70th minute strike,when he drilled home from the edge of the penalty area,that finally put the game beyond Utd and gave his team a vital three points. Alport host Bishop Castle Town at Yockings Park next Saturday KO 3.00 Saturday 11th September 2010 Alport Reserves 1 Malpas 0 Alport marched into the quarter-finals of the Ethelston Cup with a solid performance, against their local rivals.With a strong wind in their favour Malpas started brightly and Roy Cardus almost capitilised on a moments hesitancy in the Alport defence,but Alport keeper Neil Whitfield smoothered his shot.Alport then settled down and started to open up the Malpas defence.In the 25th minute Alport striker Mike Sutton was hauled to the ground,after bursting into the penalty area and Jordy Kennedy converted from the spot to give his side a valuable lead.Kennedy then went close to notching his second goal when his deft back heel,from a long throw-in, struck the post.Just before half time Alports' George Haller went close with several long range strikes which narrowly missed the target.In the 60th minute Alport survived a scare when Cardus struck the bar with a fierce strike from 20 yards.During the final 20 minutes of the tie, Alport should really have put the game beyond Malpas, when Kennedy broke through a static defence but again saw his effort strike the outside of the post.It was then Haller's turn to break through on goal but twice placed his shot wide of the post.With Malpas pushing players foward they did create a great opportunity in the 83rd minute but Whitfield pushed Oakden's low strike around the outside of the post,with a brilliant right handed save. Alport host Hanwood Utd Reserves next Saturday at Yockings Park KO 3.00 Saturday 4th September 2010 Alport Reserves 5 Meole Brace 1 Alport caught the visitors cold with two strikes inside the opening 10 minutes.Jordy Kennedy struck first when he burst through the Meole back four and made no mistake from 10 yards out and then Danny Bernie put Alport two goals ahead with a neat finish,after losing his marker.Kennedy then missed a penalty after George Haller was impeded inside the penalty area,but Alport were soon on the attack again, with Bernie drilling home their third goal,on the 30 minute mark, from 12 yards with a superb finish.Midfielder Simon Bradley then scored the goal of the game with a stunning 20 yard strike,which gave Meole keeper Neal Page no chance.The second period saw Alport again take the game to Meole, with several Alport set plays almost adding to the score sheet.Kennedy then made amends for his earlier spot kick miss when he converted a 60th minute spot kick to put his team 5 goals to the good.Meole did make a break through in the 75th minute when a wicked free kick struck a Alport defender and left Steve Burchell stranded in the Alport goal.Both teams had chances to score as the game approached the latter stages but both keepers pulled of smart saves to keep the strikers at bay. Saturday 28th August 2010 Alport Reserves 1 Wellington Amateurs Reserves 1 In a hastily rearranged fixture which was switched to Yockings park due to Wellingtons ground being unfit,it was the visitors who started brightly and went on to dominate the first half.Alport were on the back foot for most of the opening period and were fortunate that keeper Steve Burchell was in fine form.The best save coming in the 30th minute when Ams striker,Price,beat the offside trap but Burchell kept his fierce strike out with a fine block.Ams did take the lead in the 50th minute when Price broke free and his cross fell kindly to Jones who neatly slotted the ball home from 10 yards.After this set back Alport raised their game and began to cause the Ams defence some problems.Jordy Kennedy equalised in the 60th minute when he slotted home from close range after good work from Matt Baldwin.As the game approached the latter stages Alport had some great chances to seal the win,with Alex Dunne and Baldwin twice forcing great saves from the Ams keeper.In the end though,a draw was probably a fair result especially after Alport's sloppy first half performance.
